Founded in 1960 by Susan Williams-Ellis and her husband Euan Cooper-Willis, Portmeirion is a renowned British brand rooted in a rich heritage of creativity and innovation with premium pottery and tableware.
One of Britain’s most celebrated designers of the second half of the twentieth century Susan Williams-Ellis was born on the 6th June 1918 to Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect and creator of Portmeirion Village in North Wales. Susan, a visionary designer, was immersed in a world of artistic brilliance from an early age, Surrounded by artistic talents like Bernard and David Leach, Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland, Susan nurtured her innate talent for design. Her innate talent for shape, form, and pattern blossomed, leading her to create ceramic gifts for the shop at Portmeirion Village.
Upon marrying Euan Cooper-Willis, the couple assumed stewardship of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ souvenir shop, igniting their entrepreneurial spirit. In 1960, Portmeirion Pottery was born, debuting iconic designs like Malachite (1960) and Moss Agate (1961).
Over six decades, Portmeirion has remained steadfast in its commitment to crafting pottery with unparalleled individuality, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature to infuse each piece with a distinctive charm. The brand's commitment to quality and craftsmanship ensures each piece is not only beautiful but also built to last.
