One of Britain’s most celebrated designers of the second half of the twentieth century Susan Williams-Ellis was born on the 6th June 1918 to Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect and creator of Portmeirion Village in North Wales. Susan, a visionary designer, was immersed in a world of artistic brilliance from an early age, Surrounded by artistic talents like Bernard and David Leach, Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland, Susan nurtured her innate talent for design. Upon marrying Euan Cooper-Willis, the couple assumed stewardship of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis’ souvenir shop, igniting their entrepreneurial spirit. In 1960, Portmeirion Pottery was born, debuting iconic designs like Malachite (1960) and Moss Agate (1961).
