Brand Information

Brita: Pioneering Water Filtration Solutions Since 1966

Brita's journey began in 1966 when founder Heinz Hankammer set out to optimize mains water in a smart and convenient way. Starting with the production of a filter that demineralized water for car batteries at petrol stations, the company quickly evolved into a household name for water filtration solutions. Early products were crafted under the pear trees in the Hankammer family garden, and the company was named after Heinz's daughter, Brita.

In the 1970s, Brita introduced its first water filter jug for home use, marking the beginning of the brand's success in the consumer market. By the 1980s, Brita expanded internationally, laying the groundwork for its current global presence. During this period, the company also premiered its first water filter for commercial use and launched the now-iconic Brita Touch Bin waste bin.

Brita's expansion continued through the 1990s, with the introduction of innovative products such as the electronic cartridge exchange indicator, BRITA Memo, and new ranges of water filter jugs. By establishing a new recycling program, Brita set sustainability standards that continue to guide the company today.

In the 2000s, Brita celebrated its 40th anniversary with the launch of several innovative consumer water filter jugs and the expansion of its filter cartridge use to other household appliances. The brand entered the North American market with MAVEA and launched its new generation of filter cartridges, MAXTRA.

From 2010 to 2015, Brita expanded into Asia and entered the pipe-connected water dispenser market. The company grew steadily during this period, adapting its product range to meet changing customer needs.

By 2016, Brita celebrated its 50th anniversary and continued its journey of innovation in water optimization. The company now operates in 69 countries across five continents, with a focus on providing high-quality water filtration solutions that enhance daily life.

Brita's story is one of continued innovation and dedication to sustainability, with a global impact on how people drink water. The brand's vision is centered around smart, sustainable solutions that cater to the evolving needs of consumers worldwide.
